I am currently recruiting for one of the city's most respected employers, an award-winning broker that really supports and values their employees.

Based just on the cusp of the city centre my client is looking for driven candidates who want to improve upon themselves and build upon their existing skill set and qualifications.

This role would ideally suit someone who has previously worked in Commercial insurance underwriting.

The purpose of the role

  • To contribute to the development and profitability of the Delegated Authority Schemes under control of the Underwriting Team
  • To deliver an effective and professional 'market’, for commercial Account Executives and Business Advisors, in relation to corresponding Delegated Authority Scheme

Key elements of the role

  • To ensure profitable results for designated schemes within your control by applying corresponding underwriting philosophy and strategies
  • To attain full understanding of the UW standards & procedures for commercial schemes under your control
  • To calculate and negotiate quotations for New Business, Mid-Term Alterations & Renewals and issue corresponding documentation. All in a timely and accurate manner and within the parameters of the DA Underwriting Agreements
  • Contribute positively towards delivery of the Underwriting Business Plan
  • Coach and train staff where required
  • Manage relationships with Account Execs/Handlers/Insurers
  • Provide appropriate support to Senior Underwriter & Technical Manager in pursuit of common Group strategic and operational goals as agreed from time to time
  • Ensure compliance at all times with the relevant regulatory requirements

  • Teamwork - ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Compliance - awareness of regulation and agency processes
  • Systems - good IT skills [inc. Word & Excel]
  • Excellent communication - ability to discuss, consult and influence in an effective manner
  • Managing Relationships - able to build and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience and knowledge of insurance products, broker’s systems and practices
  • Technical knowledge of insurance products and terms and conditions
  • Certificate in Insurance is desirable
